Technical Specialist
Position Overview:
iTi Tropicals, the leading supplier of tropical and exotic fruit juice concentrates and purees in North America, seeks a bright, detail-oriented person to work in our Quality Group. We are looking for a team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task while paying strict attention to detail.
The Technical Specialist is responsible for updating, maintaining and tracking critical technical documentation in compliance with applicable FSMA regulations regarding fruit juices, concentrates and purees that are a part of iTi Tropicals product portfolio. This position is also responsible for logging, tracking, reviewing and responding to written customer technical inquiries. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to thorough review, approval and maintenance of documentation required to approve iTi Tropicals processors in compliance with FSVP and other applicable regulations, evaluation and reporting of applicable laws and regulations and their impact on the company, interpretation and reporting of relevant regulatory guidelines, continual update and maintenance of quality tracking systems, support, implementation and execution of various verification activities including but not limited to review and approval of food safety documentation, certificates of analysis and laboratory results.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as qualified individual responsible for thorough review and approval of documentation and information required to approve iTi Tropicals processor base in compliance with the FSVP rule and all other applicable regulations.
Support, implement and execute quality verification activities including but not limited to review and approval of food safety documentation, certificates of analysis and lab testing results.
Support review and evaluation of company protocols for compliance with appliable FSMA regulations.
Continuously review applicable laws and regulations to evaluate the impact on company protocols and activities.
Assist technical review of data, reports, or various processor’s status.
Identify and interpret relevant regulatory guidelines including but not limited to labeling laws, allergen guidelines, HACCP regulations, etc.
Maintain laboratory testing program including verification activities, customer requirements, etc.
Lead and maintain complaints process including logging and tracking complaints; scheduling and conducting meetings; sending meeting notes and follow up.
Support and assist organic regulatory requirements including annual organic certification/audit, annual update, transaction certificates, etc.
Identify and interpret relevant regulatory guidelines including but not limited to labeling laws, allergen guidelines, HACCP regulations, etc.
Facilitate, coordinate, track and support maintenance and review of iTi Tropicals nutritional profiles.
Update and maintain technical documentation, track changes, and maintain supplier, warehouse and carrier documents year over year in a systematic fashion to facilitate ease of use and identification.
Log in and track progress on technical requests from customers. Review, assess and respond to written technical requests.
Maintain and update quality tracking systems for expiration dates of important processor documentation i.e. Kosher, Organic, HACCP, social audits, GFSI audits, etc.
Support annual quality product specification review.
Assist staff with management of technical documents and customer related product inquiries.
Log and track customer audits/FDA audits and corrective action submittal for customers.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in in Science based field, or other related discipline.
5-7 years’ experience in related field preferred (quality assurance, safety, regulatory, food law, documentation control, etc.).
Relevant food safety course completed and certifications preferred; including but not limited to the following content: PCQI, FSVP, HACCP, SQF, CFS, etc.
Attention to detail and strong organization skills essential.
Experience with international travel preferred but not required.
Up to 30% domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Other essential skills include time and task management, organization and planning strategies, strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communications.
