What is it?
Banana is one of the most widely produced fruits in the world. Leading banana producers are located in India, Brazil, China, Ecuador and the Philippines. Bananas are cultivated and available year-round. One banana weighs approximately 125 grams. The Cavendish banana variety is the most popular variety among bananas. "Tree-ripened" Cavendish bananas have a greenish-yellow color which changes to a brownish-yellow on ripening.
What is so good about it?
The flesh of Cavendish bananas are soft, sweet and taste very creamy. Flavor and texture are affected by ripening temperature. One medium banana (118g) is an excellent source of Vitamin B6 and a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium and manganese. Popular combinations are acai- banana, passion fruit-banana, moraberry-banana.
How to use it
Banana may be used in fruit salads, smoothies, pancakes, quick breads, and pies, sauces, fruit smoothies and juice applications. Owing to its widely acceptable taste and flavor product development opportunities are endless while formulating. Imagine starting your day with an oatmeal with banana or banana walnut pancakes and having fried banana wontons with lunch and banana cupcakes as a decadent dessert in the evening. Banana can also be included in sauces and vinaigrettes.
