commercial grade Acerola puree and acerola juice concentrate are two of the many products supplied by iTi Tropicals for industrial and food service applications.

What is it?

The acerola tree is small with spreading branches on a short trunk. The mature fruit is small and red-colored, similar to a cherry. Its pulp has a fruity and sweet flavor. Also known as the Barbados cherry or West-Indian cherry, is grown throughout Mexico, Central America, Southeast Asia, India, South America, and the Caribbean.

What is so good about it?

Acerola is one of the most vitamin-rich fruits. It is a potent source of natural vitamin C and bio-flavonoids, as well as pro-vitamin A, vitamin B1, B2, B3, iron, phosphorous, and calcium

Acerola, also known as the “Barbados Cherry”, is commercially grown and harvested primarily in Brazil. Acerola contains arotenoids, the pigments that give the cherry its red color. Additionally, acerola imparts a distinctive tart flavor that blends well with other juices. Acerola is one of the world’s most potent sources of Vitamin C and bio-flavonoids. Just 150 grams of single strength acerola contains twenty-five times the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C. Acerola puree concentrate, also available as a clarified juice concentrate, can be added to vitamin gummies to help consumers achieve their daily recommended intake of Vitamin C. This “super fruit” is a great source of natural Vitamin C for finished products.

Acerola has a distinctive flavor which is described as a cross between a tart lime and berry. It is an excellent source of Vitamin C. The tartness of the acerola blends well with other juices such as banana, papaya, mango, and coconut water.

How to use it?

Acerola can be used in different products including ice cream, jello, juice, soft drinks, nectar, jelly, gummy candies, fruit preserves, nutraceuticals, and yogurt. Acerola juice can be blended with other fruit juices that are naturally low in vitamin C, to boost vitamin C content. Imagine drizzling acerola vinaigrette on top of your salad or having a shot of Vitamin C from acerola orange-ade in the early morning. Picture using acerola jelly on your toast and enjoying a refreshing acerola sorbet.
